Bird Is The Word Discover Challenge

Afternoon gorgeous girls =) Just popping in quickly to share a layout for the new word challenge, Discover, which has gone live today at Bird Is The Word. As a featured winner in one of their challenges a few weeks back, I was asked to be a guest designer for this challenge. So here is my sample -

Hope everyone has a great week. TFL xox

Is it a Hippo? A Whale? No it's just me!

Geez it's hot here in Tassie today, as I assume it probably is every where else too! Lucky for me the coolest room in the house is my scrap room ( yeah like I need an excuse lol). This is a layout I have created for a new blog called Daring You To Scrap. The challenge is to use song lyrics.

So before anyone starts sending me congratulations, this photo is 14 years old! Those god awful denim overalls just scream early 90's though don't they! I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with this photo. I love it as it is the only photo I have of me pregnant and 3 weeks from when this was taken I would meet the most precious person in the world to me. The hate comes for being a somewhat self concious size 8 ballooning to to the size of a Biggest Loser contestant. I never felt that beautiful glowing feeling that I hear some women talk about, I just felt incredibly fat! You would be forgiven for thinking I was carrying triplets! So the lyrics I have chosen for my journalling come from a song called Zion by Lauren Hill.

Kraft It Up Feb Challenge

This is a layout I have created for this months Kraft it Up challenge. The theme this month is Love and as well as using Kraft you need to have pink somewhere on your layout. This is my first time playing along at KIU because well...this is my first time using Kraft for a layout. Anyway I'm not sure about this one, first attempt at Kraft anyway. I have scrapped this photo before too not so long ago. Finding time to take new photos is proving to be the hardest thing about scrapping! It is definitely on this weeks to do list!

Captured My Heart

Hey guys =) Hope everyone has had an awesome weekend. So I was feeling like doing something a little different and decided to join in at Bird Is The Word along with Another Freaking Scrappy Challenge as their challenges are always a little out of the box. So the challenge at AFSC is to scrap your first love. Well I don't have a photo of my first real life love and probably wouldn't scrap him anyway. So I have chosen my first celebrity non-sexual love/girl crush, Tori Amos. The challenge at BITW was to use the word heart, so I thought these two challenges worked perfectly together!

I have always been someone that appreciates music and film that tends to go a little deeper ( and darker sometimes). At a time when pop culture was very superficial with the likes of Boy George and Wham, she was this amazing feminist eccentric enigma who dared to write about things like rape, miscarriage and relationships that were more complicated than just boy meets girl. Her songs were like a cryptic emotional rollercoaster that you could get totally lost in. Despite not having any musical talent whatsoever, as a teen I always imagined myself perched next to her in front her Bösendorfer, singing along with her ethereal classically trained voice. I am still a huge fan, at least up to the late 90's where she began to join the ranks of overly produced commercial artists that I just 'don't get'.

I will leave with you a song from my favourite album. Not everyones cup of tea I know but I just love her xox

A2Z Scraplets Sketch Challenge

Morning all! I am experiencing a eerily silent house today after the very long ( 2+ months) of school holidays has come to an end for my son, Mitchell. Last year our morning school routine consisted of wake up call at 7, then 7.05, then 7.10, shaking him, prying his eyes open with my fingers, 7.15 call threatening to ground him, 7.20 a frustrated "GET UP!" scream from me and then finally around 7.25-7.30 a sleepy grumpy teenager appears FINALLY! This morning however, I wake up at 7am to find him perched on the couch, dressed, had breakfast, bag packed, teeth brushed and ready to rock and roll. I almost passed out from shock! I would like to think that this will last however I know better, I give it a week tops!

So anyway, the reason for my post! I now have a bit more time to scrap and have been itching to get back into some challenges. I've decided to play along with the girls over at A2Z Scraplets this month for their sketch challenge. This is a layout of my step daughter at her house warming party who has just moved into her very first house ( after uni student accommodation). I've kept it pretty simple ( for me). I just love this photo and didn't want to swamp it with too much product =)

TFL. Take care everyone =) xox

Bird Is The Word & Sassy Scrapper

So in a few days time DH & I will be celebrating our first wedding anniversary...YAY! To celebrate the occasion I have done a layout of the two of us. The current 'Remember' challenge at Bird Is The Word was perfect for this along with the February sketch at Sassy Scrapper.

When we were married we had a non-traditional ceremony in a vineyard with a celebrant and we chose/wrote our own vows ( when I say 'we' I mean 'I' lol). For my journalling I have created some tags with patterned paper & vellum and used some lines from my vows which I want my DH to "Always Remember".

Product List -

Paper: Prima Romantique - Hedgerow; Ha Penny; The Courts; Estelle; Crumpet. AC white cardstock.
Other: Prima blooms - Fleur de Lys Latte, Summer Carnation Lemon Vine, Meredith Dove, Arcadian Collection Weathered. Twine, shipping tag, Tim Holtz ditress ink in walnut and vintage paper, gesso, metal brads, hybrid birds, book page, vellum.

OUAS & Get Creative Partner Up

Over at Once Upon A...Sketch, we are nearing the end of our first year and during this time we have noticed a huge amount of support from many countries around the world and we are incredibly lucky that our challenges are supported by so many people from all different parts of the globe.

One of these countries is Greece, and we have come to realise that we receive many entries from such a small country where scrapbooking is so new, so we had a think and decided to team up with another challenge blog based in Greece and run by our very own Irini Liolia called Get Creative. How exciting!!

We have decided to become "sister" blogs, because let's face it...most of us scrapping are women and is there anything stronger than a sisterhood? So for this month only, the Design Team from Once Upon A..Sketch are guests over at Get Creative and taking part in their 1st and 15th of the month challenges and the Design Team from Get Creative are guests on Once Upon A..Sketch!
Thus a new bond is formed between 2 challenge blogs.

Here is the sketch that the Once Upon A..Sketch Design Team had to follow. It is created by Get Creative Design Team member Elina Katechi.

Don't forget to head on over to the Get Creative blog to see what the rest of the Once Upon A ..Sketch Design Team created and to find out what prizes etc are up for grabs and then visit Once Upon A...Sketch to see details on the February 1st challenge...
